REVIEW | 3 days skiing alone with Carv – Can I beat Ted Ligety?
In April 2023 I had he chance to ski alone with @CarvSki for 3 days. It was so much fun to have my skiing measured by the Carv sensors and trying the suggestions for improvement it came up with.
It quickly becomes a game to see how far you can push your Ski:IQ, which is super motivating. The suggestions are really helpful to make you understand what you need to be working on to get even higher scores.
Since this video was recorded Carv has updated their algorithm and I have kept training. My Ski:IQ score is now 165.
In the video I share my experience and thoughts about skiing with Carv along with some ski tips that I think you will find helpful.
FULL DISCLAIMER: I am a Carv ambassador and Carv was kind enough to compensate my time for making this video.

      @InspirationalSkiing 19 днів тому

      Hi @sueh5241. Thanks ror your question. I have two suggestions for you to try as alternatives. 1. You can try going down and support yourself on your forearms instead of the hands only. What I mean is having your whole forearm flat on the ground and then still be in a plank position with the rest of your body. The same position I do in the plank in our beginner SkiFit video #1. 2. Another alternative could be to shift between touching your toes with your ankles, knees and hips bend and the over head clap. I hope this helps. Keep training regularly and you will see results. /Janus

    I had an accident today where one ski detached where it wasn't supposed to, I intentionally lay down to not crash into a tree and almost broke my leg as the other ski ironically didn't detach when it was needed. When I can start skiing again I will practice this to be able to stop safely on one ski if it happens again. Thanks for the video!

    Can they handle engine noise for jet boating?

    • @InspirationalSkiing
      @InspirationalSkiing Місяць тому

      Thanks for your question, @shaunrabbidge1777. I haven't tried it on jet boats, but I have passed on the question to Cardo and I will return with an answer for what would work the best here. /Janus

    • @InspirationalSkiing
      @InspirationalSkiing Місяць тому

      I now have an answer from Cardo: "We haven’t tested them with jet boats so I can’t give a definite answer. However, I would think that they’d be suitable, since our products handle motorcycle engine noise on the regular. Regarding the risk of getting Packtalk repeatedly soaked in water: We need to distinguish between salt water and fresh water. Salt water: No guarantees it will work. Fresh water: The Packtalk itself can get soaked and will work just fine. The mic and speakers are splash proof, but if they get soaked repeatedly they could stop working. I have seen people use Packtalks for jet skiing and think it could be a good solution but there are some risks involved. NOTE: Cardo can’t guarantee performance in that sector." I hope this helps. /Janus

I would also say our video How to do the Hockey Stop on skis (WITH BONUS TIP) is worth checking out, when you are working on you parallel skiing skills. There has been a lot of interest in learning parallel skiing so we have actually just returned from a trip to Norway, where we spent the week recording material for a more in depth and structured course on how to get from snow plough skiing to parallel skiing. If everything goes according to plan, we will launch that course for the 24/25 Northern ski season, so stay tuned for that one. I hope this helps. /Janus

      @@InspirationalSkiing that is a good idea and i think you can inspire lots of skiers. I totally get that, @@kirunamax. I also prefer the outdoors for all the reasons you mention. This is a ski hall 3 hours drive from our home, we sometimes visit outside of skiing season, when it has been too long since we had skis on 😄 And I always find it enjoyable to find new ways to get something interesting and challenging from this green slope. To be honest, I could spend many days there before getting bored, even though I get even more excited for skiing on a real mountain. I hope you will enjoy the rest of the skiing season if you are on the Northern hemisphere. If you are on the southern hemisphere, I wish you a great skiing season in a few months.

      @@InspirationalSkiing i have been floundering on my skis for 20 years. I am 61 and my kids all ski raced. After years of frustration and thanks to you tube I have decided to learn how to ski better. I invested in new boots. And new skis. And went to a womens skill development camp. But I encourage anyone who reads this to invest the time in the dryland training and really think about technique. Some can just throw themselves down the hill. Not me. I will never be a super confident skier but with better strength and better understanding of how to manage the hill I have already achieved a lot. I am really interested in continuing to learn. It is very interesting. I share your videos with my son in law who is new to skiing. I am also intrigued by the Carv technology. Very cool. I find the you tube videos to be inspirational and a great reinforcement and prep work to do before and after on snow lessons. Keep up the great work. And thank you. Skiing is a gift. I have these for snowboarding, however really disappointed by the range on these units. As soon as I turn a corner I lose connection with the other unit… defeats the point of this..

      Thanks for sharing your experience, @FJDH11. You are absolutely right, you need line of sight as I explain in the video. Ideally they should be able to stay connected when loosing sight, but as of know that is not the case as you point out. To supplement your comment I would mention that as soon as your regain line of sight the units reconnect. What I do if I loose contact with someone I need to contact and I know we won't soon reconnect, I make a phone call. This is still more nice with the phone already connected to the speakers and mic, in my opinion. Compared to walkie talkies as an alternative that might be able to communicate around corners in the terrain, you get really good sound quality with Packtalk Outdoor. So I guess it is about finding the solution that suits your preference. I hope this helps. /Janus

    Does it connect to older models like the pack talk black, wondering if me and my buddy can connect?

    You should do a video on how to maximise spray on a hockey stop to shower your mate in snow when they stack.

    • @InspirationalSkiing
      @InspirationalSkiing 2 місяці тому

      Thanks for you comment @GuagoFruit. I know this seem like a fun idea, but I have seen too many accidents with people trying to spray their friends and the loosing control and ending up hitting their friends knee height with the skis first. A fun idea then quickly turns into a very bad day for everybody. What happens is that when the friends stopped, they pushed away some surface snow exposing the harder snow underneath. When the spraying friend try to spray they get surprised that the snow is harder than expected above their friends and they loose control. I therefore always strongly recommend skiers to stop below other people. I hope this helps. /Janus

      @@InspirationalSkiing yes it does. I fell victim to a failed stop by my friend this weekend and now my thumb is now in a splint. Nothing serious, just a "god damn it" sort of thing

    I ended up buying this with your coupon code and the clarity is really good compared to Milo. I do wish the range was better, especially with obstacles in the way. I do have a question, are you able to hook up headphone with a microphone to this. And use that instead? This would be mainly for road cycling

    • @InspirationalSkiing
      @InspirationalSkiing 2 місяці тому

      Thats awesome, @kunalpatelfilms. Thank you. And good to hear that the clarity is good compared to Milo. Yes, you can use the adapter cable to switch to a different head set with its own microphone. The head set needs to be connected with a mini jack cable. I am not sure how a different headset affects the noise cancellation, though. If the noise cancellation system is affected, a "deadcat" over the microphone will help. Feel free to share your experience with this here in the comments if you try it. I am sure it will be helpful for people considering buying their own Packtalk Outdoor. I hope this helps. /Janus

      @@InspirationalSkiing great thanks! Will do. It would also be cool if the device can use your phone as a mic/speaker. For example, since this isn’t really made for road cycling, I could clip the pactalk somewhere and then have my iPhone mounted on the handrail and communicate through speaker. Not sure if that has been done. Just trying to get more use out of it than just snowboarding! Or even during two car road trips!

      Thanks for your question, @Anya_so_sweet. It will for sure make it easier to succeed if you have practiced some parallel skiing or exercises towards parallel skiing first, but sometimes I actually use The Hockey Stop as a way to learn the parallel ski position. It all depends on the individual skier what is the ideal path forward and makes the most sense. I hope this helps. /Janus
